First off, cheer up! Things aren’t nearly as dire or ominous as it might appear in the media.

There’s good indication that most conditions regarding travel between the UK and the EU will remain as is, without any major (if any) changes, even if Brexit happens without a deal. This isn’t simply wishful thinking: there have been such statements made by the EU officials responsible, especially regarding flights and other travel connections between the EU and the UK. However, just so that you have all your bases covered, we have comprised a list of things to know, things to find out and things to consider!

Flights, Ferries, Trains and other Services:

All of these will continue to run properly even if Brexit happens with no deal as most operate under international law which will remain unaffected. However, some details might change and/or not apply, so before travel check with the authorities to make sure you’re aware of any changes made.

Insurance and financial protection:

You will still be insured and be entitled to refunds in case your travel plans can’t be fulfilled or your bookings are cancelled because of Brexit if the package you have purchased is covered by ABTA and ATOL protection. Make sure you inquire and are reassured that your booking agent meets all the regulations that ensure this right.

VISAs and Passports:

If you own a UK passport, it will still be valid post-Brexit. If it’s going to expire soon, make sure it does after at least six months after your travel dates. Double check with the proper authorities about whether your passport is valid and will remain so on the event that it’s near expiration.

You won’t need to apply for a VISA to travel in the EU, even after Brexit.

“We travel for romance, we travel for architecture, and we travel to be lost”, the writer Ray Branbury famously said, and we totally agree. If you want to experience all these, then just visit Chania, one the most beautiful and captivating towns of Crete.

Chania is well known for the Venetian Harbor, the old port, and the narrow alleys of the old town. The museums, the cozy cafés, and the old building – of Venetian and Ottoman design- will give you the impression that you live in another era.

How to get there

By planeChania has an International airport, that can be reached from many cities from the rest of Europe. Although, it is important, if you don’t drive, to get a taxi to go to the city, because the buses from the airport to the city are almost no-existent.

By ferryIn daily basis there are ferries from Athens (Piraeus Port) to Souda, the port for ferries for Chania, which is only few kilometers away from the city. Ferry tickets are available in all travel agencies around Greece.

What to see & do

The old Venetian Harbor: As it is mentioned above, one of the most attractive places in Chania is the Old Venetian Harbor. Along the Old Harbor is full of restaurants, cafés, traditional shops and night clubs. That makes it also the busiest part of the old town where tourists and locals can enjoy themselves during day and night. It is worth noting that the monuments of the Old Harbor have been preserved since the Venetian rule period (1252-1645), the Ottoman rule (1645-1898), and the period of the Egyptian domination (1831-1841) that occurred during the period of the Turkish rule.

Naval Museum (Maritime Museum): Visit this great Museum and you will get the chance to learn the Crete’s old relationship with the Sea. Video presentations, photos, nautical equipment, and unique model of ships will make this experience special. The museum is open daily (10.00 to 14.00) except Monday and the admission is 2,50€.

Archaeological Museum: The museum contains archeological finds from Neolithic times through to the Roman era. Especially, it contains a wide range of Minoan Ceramics, gold jewelry, sculpture, painted burial urns, clay tablets with inscriptions, and vases. The museum is located in the former Venetian Monastery of Saint Francis at 25 Chalidon Street. It is open daily from 8.00 to 17.00 (to 19.30 April-October), except Monday.

What is more, there are breathtaking places outside Chania which really worth to visit, especially those who love nature.

Visit Samaria Gorge, one of the most picturesque attractions in Crete. Wear comfortable shoes and get ready for the adventure. It is 18km long and to get there you should take a bus to Omalos. To return back to Chania is needed to take the ferry from either Sougia village or Sfakia.

Besides, only few kilometres outside Chania is a small and beautiful village called Therissos, which really deserves to visit it. In addition, for relaxing and enjoying the sun we strongly recommend boat trips to Balos or Elafonisi, beautiful beaches with turquoise waters.

So, don’t wait anymore. Chania is waiting for you to explore it, just book your ticket as soon as possible. Chania the ideal place for holidays either for a family or a group of friends. We can help you finding the suitable place to stay. Take a look to the villas at Chania, choose the best for you and we will take care of the rest.

Enjoy your stay in Chania!

What is intended to be a symbol for peace and cooperation among peoples was inaugurated today, April 14, 2019, in Karavolas of Heraklion Crete: a municipal park named after Yuri Gagarin. The ceremony honoured cosmonauts Fyodor Nikolayevich Yurchikhin, of Greek descent, Anton Shkaplerov, Oleg Artemyev and Sergei Prokofiev who participated and recuperated via special restitution programs for cosmonauts post-mission, in Crete and several other places in Greece.

This isn’t just any simple park- there are several parks around the world named after the legendary cosmonaut, in honour of science, peace and cooperation. These parks become international sightseeing sights with global scope for learning and inspiration of youth to come into the world of science as well as nature, along with messages of humanitarianism and nations coming together for a common goal.

And as we’ve described in previous posts, there is indeed great cooperation taking place between Greece and the cosmonauts across the world who come to Crete, and especially in Heraklion, to recuperate from their missions in space thanks to the excellent climate, beauty and hospitality in Crete and other places in Greece that have special restitution programs for cosmonauts.

These programs have been running in Crete, Attica, Evia and Chalkidiki since 2015 under the auspices of the ministry of Tourism and the Russian Geographical Society.

Yuri Gagarin had a tradition of planting a tree on the eve of each of his missions to space. This tradition is now going to be upheld by every cosmonaut that comes to recuperate in Greece- they will be planting an olive tree in the Cretan Yuri Gagarin park, progressively making an olive grove symbolizing the several missions from which the cosmonauts will have recuperated in Greece before going back to advance science.

Why plant only olive trees in the Cretan Yuri Gagarin park?

In Greece, drinking is a ritual. Fun ritual full of color, taste and life but ritual nonetheless- and you shouldn’t miss out! Missing out on drinking Greek in Greece is like going to the beach and never dipping in- a major miss you don’t want.

Drinking for Greeks and greek culture in general is meant as a social connector, a way to bond with your friends, family and neighbors and create good, merry memories that will help you through the hardships of everyday life.

Drinking in GreeceLike the nectar of the Gods, drinking is central as a means, but peripheral as an end: you are expected to drink to make merry and to participate in the partying, the chatting, the socializing. That is more important than the alcohol itself.

Drinking in Greece is never done alone, and it’s never without company- both in terms of friends AND in terms of food: drinking without eating something to ‘ground the booze’ is considered a sad, sad affair that is more like an illness than something awesome, as drinking should be.

If you do it right, drinking Greek will give you all the advantages and none of the drawbacks: you’ll drink a lot, you won’t get drunk, and you’ll remember every moment of your merriment, partying and bonding with friends, old and new.

So what DO you get to drink in Greece, and what do you accompany it with, since you shouldn’t ever drink it on its own?

Reviews can be urchins

But how easy is it?

There are a lot of review sites where you can get the opinions of other travelers and other users about how they felt in the venues, villas, hotels and places you too are considering to visit. But how much, and especially when can you trust them? How much should you gamble when you make your choice, and is there any failsafe to put in place, in case the deal isn’t what you were looking for?

There are many occurrences, even social experiments performed, where reviews in review sites aren’t accurate, or may be the result of malicious intent or even the sincere yet unfair, unbalanced or unfortunate review of people who simply aren’t in a position to give sound and reliable reports. There’s also possibly inaccurate positive reviews created as an indirect promotional campaign that also will confound your efforts to make a proper choice when designing your vacation.
